No 750 fps at 40 yds is probably not enough to make a humane kill on a squirrel.

  2. OkieRoadhunter says:

Absolutely. That velocity is higher than a lot of . 22 short rounds. Please take only head/neck shots for clean kills. You will have no problem doing so with this gun.

  3. evo741hpr3 says:

I know of NO . 22 short round that shoots at 750 FPS. A 22 short packs more velocity and more weight thant this airgun by quite a large margin.

Will it take out a squirrel. . . probably. . will it do so quickly. . most likely not. When I was a kid I used an RWS 1,200fps pellet gun and more often then not it required two shots to kill a squirrel. Thankfully, I saved my money and bought a . 22lr which was far more accurate and produced much quicker cleaner kills on small game.

  4. MH says:

i doubt it. but with a high impact pellet and a head shot maybe. I wouldn’t want to chance only wounding the squirrel though. I were you id go for a 17hmr or . 22 short. much more powerful and not that loud.

  5. jack w says:

Yes, it will definitely kill a squirrel. The people who have answered no are either non-hunters or know very little about firearms(especially the guy who said a . 17 is more powerful than a . 22. A . 17 has higher velocity, but it is not more powerful). Don’t listen to these people and go kill some squirrels.

Also, when you ask whether or not a certain gun will kill an animal ethically the main concern is shot placement. Black bears have been killed with a . 22. It is true. . . . . . look it up in the web. A camper shot a black bear with a . 22 about ten years ago when the bear was about to attack him. The guy shot the bear directly between the eyes and killed it. Does that mean a . 22 is a bear gun? Hell no. The point I’m making is when you talk about killing an animal ethically shot selection is 100 times more important than cartridge selection. I am not saying you should be trying to go big game hunting with a . 22. All I’m saying is that you will have no problem killing a squirrel with a . 22.

Ask all the people who say you can’t kill a squirrel with a . 22 from that distance what they think their chance of survival would be if they were shot in the head with a . 22 from twenty yards.

Son you got some bad answers. A squirrel is a tough critter with lots of muscle. A air rifle like 1200fps with a pointed hunting round to the head might do the trick. . . . to the body it just don’t penetrate far enough unless you get a head shot or under side shot to heart at 20yds. At 50yds a pellet just won’t do much.

Its not humane and you will probably just see him hop off and die in pain if a body shot. A 22 air gun is better.

But a . 22LR will do it and a . 17HMR is more powerful than a . 22 in velocity and foot pounds cause its a fire cracker fast round.

  7. ?Adrian T? Country Boy Forever says:

Yeah it should work, but for a definite kill try considering PBA Raptor round’s. And the link You gave for the velocities is, Error 404 Not Found.

I see you have gotten a lot of answers that vary quite a bit. I have been air gun hunting for small game for over 30 years.

The answer depends on YOU and wind.

Gamo’s are very accurate but you have to be able to take advantage of that – are you a good enough shot to put your shots into 1″ at 40 yards?? Limit yourself to the distance where you can do that consistently.

The other thing is that even with a light breeze an airgun pellet can be pushed off course enough even in 20 yards to make your shot miss or wound.

If you are a very good shot and there is almost no wind the answer is yes. You MUST take a head shot to kill the squirrel immediately – in my opinion if you aren’t going to do that then you shouldn’t be hunting.

If you hit one in the head with that gun at 40 yards it will die within a couple seconds. Try to get closer and it will die immediately.

If you aren’t going to eat it don’t shoot it. If it is a nuisance animal, get a box trap and trap it – let it loose 20+ miles away.

First off, here’s my take on the Gamo Whisper. It’s vastly over priced, and putting a silencer on a springer is about as effective as t*ts on a bull. >they might be there, but they serve no useful purpose. A silencer works very well on a PCP but they are practically useless on a springer.

    >>Will the . 22 caliber Gamo Whisper take out a squirrel at 20-40 yardsThe CFX is just as powerful as the Whipser, and it’s widely recognized as Gamo’s most accurate rifle.

  10. Questionaire says:

It will definitely kill a squirrel but I would keep my shots under 30 yards and aim for anywhere to shoulder and head. Be sure to practice before you shoot a squirrel though, because you want it to be the quickest, most painless kill.

  11. hunt+fish=live says:

    well no shieeet

  12. james b says:

with a head shot and proper pellet yes. . . body shot I doubt it, especially at 40 yards. I had a squirrel shot dead center at 30 yards still running after shot with a . 22 maxi mag. Id go with a 17 HM2 or . 22 high velocity unless your assured of a head shot. At 20 yards you may or may not be ok, it depends on your pellet and shot placement. If you are gonna use the pellet gun, go for the head shots at those distances
