@zeek3177 I like wood too. Mine has a gray looking laminated wood stock that fits sooooooo nice. I held a remington 700 sps with a plastic stock that I HATED
i have one. and ur right, you cant get more than 3 or 4 shots before it starts warping the barrel. i also think its a great rifle for the youger generation of hunters, because like u said, it has some excellent saftey features and its very easy to maintain and it wont blow ur shoulder off, but itll still knock down a deer. i got a simmons on mine, but ironically, i have a 30-06 with that same scope
Very attractive gun! I much prefer the blued bolt-handle as opposed to the matte “silver” finish found on nearly all of Ruger’s rifles. That one minor detail kind of turns me off of their bolt-action sporters. Could you estimate its date of manufacture?
I have the same model and caliber M77. Got it from my cousin in 1998. Killed my first deer with it at approx. 100 yards in 2000. Found out today that it was made in 1980. Shoots straight still 30 years later. I’m definitely keeping this rifle and giving it to my son.
My first rifle was just like this one only it had a better figured stock. There is no craftsmanship or anything special about them. They were a cheap production rifle but – hey – they are a classic! I do miss the 5 shot magazine capacity though. I can never understand why in the world ol’Bill decided to make the MkII a 4 shot. Also love the old fashion mounts, they are a little lower than today’s offering. Nice vid it brings back memories.
I was left an M77 (. 243) by my grandfather. I’ve never fired it; the last time I saw him fire it I was 12 (now 36). I had to open and lock the bolt for travel on the plane a few days ago, and I’m wondering how the heck you get it back in? For the life of me I can’t figure it out.
The part just behind the handle is now twisted & locked, resulting in the stop coming to rest against the safety switch. I haven’t figured out how to twist it back to normal position to re-engage the bolt. Help! Thanks
Miller I have the same exact rifle (Ruger M77) chambered 25-06(Mine comes stock with a bull barrell though). I can shoot bullet on bullet at 100 yards all day long with hand loads.
