Fathers Day Gifts Sure to Please Your Dad

Ask any father what he wants for Father’s Day, and the answer will be “Not another tie or golf club”. It’s easier to buy gifts for moms, considering there are so many options available for women. But when it comes to buying Father’s Day gifts for dads, it’s easy to run out of ideas. What will dads like to get on Father’s Day?
Well, it depends. Does your dad like to read? Or is he one of those types who can spend hours with maps? Here are some ideas for great customized Father’s Day gifts sure to please your dad, depending on if he is a(n):
1. Environmentalist Dad Belkin conserve : Here is a gift idea for dads trying to make all those subtle changes to our lives that conserve energy. By now, everyone has heard that a lot of energy is wasted on all those devices that sit drinking up juice while in “stand-by” mode. This power strip allows you to really turn off six of its eight outlets using a tiny remote control (you can glue it to the wall – I think it’s mostly there to save you the energy of bending down to the wall outlet). Two plugs are left unswitched so you can keep the DVR or VCR (does anyone have those now?) on while you’re out or away.
2. Boy Scout Dad Swiss Tech 6-in-1 Key Multi-Tool : We love the Swiss Tech key tool. It folds into a key-like object that fits unobtrusively on a key ring. It doesn’t take any space, looks just like a key, and yet has so many features that any boy scout, pre-adolescent or middle-aged will be pleased. In a small space, you have a Phillips and regular screwdriver, a bottle opener, a knife, and a file. Sure, you wouldn’t want to use these tools to renovate your kitchen, but like any pocket knife, all that stuff comes in handy often enough to be glad you’ve got it. My wife and I both have one and never travel without it. In polished stainless steel. A bit pricey at $19. 99, but worth every penny.
3. Book Lover Dad Daddy’s Little Girl: Stories of the Special Bond Between Fathers and Daughters by Gregory E. Lang If you have a daughter, it’s hard not to get a little emotional reading this collection of anecdotes compiled by Gregory Lang (author of more pithy books like “Why a daughter Needs a Dad: 100 reasons”). This is not a “deep” book, but it does get at a lot of important truths about the importance of a father to little (and big) girls. Sometimes, that’s also what dads need to give an extra push to their efforts. We all need to know that all those hours pushing swings and replacing toy batteries are the foundation of an enduring relationship that doesn’t end suddenly at adolescence. There has been plenty of research that shows this to be true, but Mr. Lang, in this compilation of his own and others’ stories relates how this plays out in different ways. For the dad of a young girl, it also gives a not-always-comfortable (read morbid) look into the future when kids are grown up and dad is looking at what he’s leaving behind as a legacy rather than what he is building in the here and now.
4. Cartophile Dad Hometown Map Jigsaw Puzzle Centered On Your Home : From the New York Times store, this unique, made-to-order jigsaw puzzle features a map that centers on your home. The map, an extract from the renowned U. S. Geological Survey, has fascinating details and provides names of main roads, contour lines, transport infrastructure, water features, vegetation, and shows notable buildings/structures. Personalized for $44. 95.
5. Gamer Dad Wii from Nintendo : Permission to buy a video game console. It now seems universally permissible to add a Wii to the family entertainment options. Either dad already has one or he’s waiting for you to say it’s okay to let one in the house. Now with the addition of Wii Fit, even moms can rationalize getting in a round of Mario Tennis before dinner. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a strategy, it’s still impossible to walk into a store and buy one of these. You’ll either have to scope out deliveries at your local electronics store or plan to pay $100 over the MSRP to buy one online. We have found no other real options.
6. Traveling Dad “Bushnell Powerview 12×25 Compact Folding Roof Prism Binocular (Black)” (Bushnell) : With slightly more magnification (12X versus the usual 10X) in a compact package, these are good portable binoculars for travel dads and sporting events. At around $20, this is a great little binocular.
7. Beer Lover Dad Krups BeerTender : For the beer lover, the Krups BeerTender, a countertop “kegerator” for the 5 liter minikegs of Heineken beer is just perfect to give you the perfect pour every time. The tap keeps the beer at 39 degrees Fahrenheit. Some models come with a 30-days freshness countdown counter. Attention: meant only to be used with Heineken mini-kegs.
8. Photographer Dad Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K 9MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Time to get a new family digital camera. We’ve had great luck with our little Panasonic Lumix D9 with its Leica lens. Now Panasonic has a new model that shoots at 9MP (far more than mortals actually need), but also sports HD output. The optical stabilization is top notch and it has a 10X zoom. Only $350.
Father’s Day is not just about burnt toast, breakfast in bed, or that brand new tie. It’s a day for children to express their love and gratitude for the unsung hero in their lives.

Panasonic FZ40 Review

Are you in the market seeking a travel camera? Why do not you consider the super zoom compact digital camera such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-Fz40? Many people at this time are attracted to this model, and in this article you can find a bunch reasons why. 24x Zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 25-600mm)DMC-FZ40 is budget super zoom digital camera because it brings several features such as a LEICA DC VARIO_ELMARIT 24x optical zoom lens which provides a 25mm wide minimum focal length. Lumix DMC-FZ40 is formed based on versatility and depth of the FZ-Series, thus the camera presents stunning and improved creative hybrid camera capabilities and features to photographers, this functions should give them enlarged flexibility and a huge number of features. Panasonic’s consumers will obtain various user-friendly features in super-compact point-and-shoots camera that sure with added 24x optical zoom and better manual controlsTele Conversion LensThe main factors why I like the Panazonic FZ series of cameras is that I can find much closer to the action using a tele converter lens. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 digital camera is compatible with their DMW-LT55 1. 7x teleconverter lens that will give you zooming ability equal to an epic 1020mm (35mm camera equivalent). You will need a Lens Adaptor (DMW-LA5) to add the telephoto conversion lens to the camera. 32x Intelligent ZoomAnother attractive feature is that thanks to the new Intelligent Resolution technology on the Panasonic DMC-FZ40 that extends the zoom ratio by around 1. 3x but maintains the photo quality although it is using the digital zoom. This means the 24x optical can now virtually and practically extend to 32x!Additionaly, the “Extra Optical Zoom” function further extends the camera’s zoom power to a massive 50. 6x by using the center part of the large MOS sensor to get subjects even closer. This setting unfortunately reduces the resolution to 3 megapixels (3MP), which could be useful for identification purposes. 25mm Ultra Wide-AngleThe 14. 1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FZ40 has a 25mm wide-angle 24x optical zoom f/2. 8-5. 2 lens with about twice the capturing area of a conventional 35mm lens. This provides you fantastic scope and scale for innovative composition. You could engage the powerful 24x optical zoom to amazing effect in both in stills and movies. The additional optical zoom uses the centre part of the CCD to enlarge this 24x zoom ratio to an impressive 50. 6x zoom at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less in stills. Sonic Speed Auto FocusAn important feature in any digital camera, but especially one where your subjects don’t always stay still, like birds and other animals is just how quickly it can focus. The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FZ40 brings many enhancements, as well as a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is a faster and more accurate Auto Focusing performance. Spectacular HD movies on the big screenThe Lumix DMC-FZ40 records high-definition movies in AVCHD Lite with the great quality of Dolby Digital Stereo Creator. It also has motion JPEG (1,280 x 720 pixels). Just press the Movie recording button to begin shooting. Change to Creative Movie mode and you can manually alter the shutter speed and aperture. Or you could use Intelligent Auto to put up the camera do the thinking for you, while you concentrate on composition and following the action. When you’ve completed shooting, simply put in the SD card into the VIERA Image Viewer (SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot) on a VIERA TV or Panasonic Blu Ray recorder / player to see and share your footage or connect your Lumix DMC-FZ40 to your VIErA TV and use the remote to see and share your recording. Panasonic FZ40 vs FZ35At first look the Panasonic FZ40 camera seems very similar to the earlier-launched FZ35 . But the main differences are imperative ones: more powerful optical zoom, much higher resolution image capture, faster auto focus, movie recording in full HD, wider aperture range and a 25mm ultra wide angle lens.

GMC Road Bike should cost much more than they do. My friends could not believe when I tell you the price. The gears are great. In the hills until you hit 35 mph and hitting 30 mph on a flat surface. The quality of this bike is great and looks great solid. I had zero problems with the quality of training. Weld seems safe, bicycle safety, seat tube fit better. I was surprised how good the frame coincides with my size 6′0 “.

The advent of digital technology has caused a revolution in the way we think of photography. Before this revolution, most of us thought of photography in terms of images captured on film that subsequently would be transformed into prints by way of photographic enlargement. However, rapid proliferation of digital cameras, scanners and printers has changed this perception. Even the prevailing jargon has changed. Where previously an image was described in terms of granularity and acutance, it now more often is defined by pixel count and dpi. Meanwhile, those of us who have spent much of our lives in the pursuit of film-based photography keep asking ourselves whether such photography can survive; and, if it does, what role will it play? When we debated this question in late 2000, it seemed reasonable to assume that digital cameras with resolutions in the 10-megapixel regime would become commonplace within a few years. This would put them in head-to-head competition with 35-mm film-based technology; perhaps even displacing that technology entirely within a decade or so. On the other hand, it seemed unlikely that digital cameras with resolutions much in excess of 10 megapixels would appear in the near term. Especially unlikely would be the emergence of digital cameras with resolutions approaching 100 megapixels. As a consequence, we felt it likely that film-based large-format photography would for the time being remain unchallenged. With this in mind, we have concentrated recent endeavors upon the application of ultra-high-resolution techniques to the field of large-format photography. In defining the term “ultra-high-resolution,” we have analyzed each factor that bears upon the image forming process; especially taking into account the effects of atmospheric blurring, lens aberrations and film granularity. When it became apparent that the sought-for resolution could not be preserved via conventional photographic enlargement, the scope of our analysis was widened to include film scanners and digital printers. We concluded that, consistent with the largest practicable roll film format (9″x18″), we could expect to achieve a resolution equivalent to 1000 megapixels. Hence, came the name Gigapxl&trade. With recent developments, this figure approaches 4000 megapixels, but the name remains unchanged. Subject to the limitations of human vision, a minimum of 8 square inches of print area is needed to convey the information contained in a 1-megapixel image. When scaled to 1000 megapixels, the minimum print area becomes 50 square feet. For prints made from our 9″x18″ format, this equates to a print which has a height of 5 feet and a width of 10 feet. Likewise, a 4000-megapixel print has dimensions of 10 feet by 20 feet. Meanwhile, close-up sharpness matches that of a 4″x6″ print from a 3-megapixel digital camera. The information content of a Gigapxl™ print can be compared to that available in a real-world scene which is viewed through a pair of binoculars. In the case of 1000-megapixel images, one would require 6X binoculars; twice this power at 4000 megapixels. The first Gigapxl™ cameras were completed and ready for test in February 2001; the first color landscapes being produced a month later. Early images had a pixel count of 260 megapixels (20-micron scan resolution) and were printed on photographic paper. Within a year, however, the count had increased to 670 megapixels (12. 5-micron scan resolution). At which level, although substantially higher resolution was being achieved on film, the pixel count temporarily became constrained by issues related to scanner resolution and the file size limits of Adobe Photoshop. Meanwhile, with second-generation cameras (combining superior lenses and a variety of focal lengths) nearing completion, we switched from photographic printing to pigment ink printing. Working closely with Adobe, issues related to Photoshop file size have slowly but surely been resolved. Meantime, collaboration with Leica Geosystems (manufacturer of the DSW500 digital scanner) is about to yield scans with a resolution of 6 microns. At which time, numerous existing negatives will be redigitized at 2,900 megapixels. By year end (2004), we expect to push scan resolution to the 5-4 micron range; the corresponding pixel counts being 4,180 megapixels and 6,530 megapixels, respectively. Extensive viewer response to Gigapxl imagery was first obtained in 2003. In March of that year, a 21-foot panorama of San Francisco was exhibited at The Albuquerque Museum. Four months later, a similar image was exhibited at the Palace of Fine Arts/Exploratorium in San Francisco. Aside from general expressions of awe, feedback mainly has centered around the extent to which ultra-high-resolution adds a humanizing touch to subject material which otherwise tends to be dominated by its monumental scale. Especially it has been noted that the ability to capture the minutiae of everyday life provides a level of interest not found in conventional cityscapes. While technical issues which relate to scanning and digital processing continue to be addressed, current efforts are focused upon the expansion of an image portfolio. At this point, we have stockpiled some 500 images; a fair proportion of which already have been scanned at the 10-micron level. Subject material for the most part typifies the American landscape. To date, photographic forays have been made to all Provinces and States, with the exception of Hawaii. Notable urban subjects include cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Calgary, Colorado Springs, Dallas, Seattle, and Denver. Work in the National and State Parks/Monuments extends to Yosemite, Point Lobos, Mount Tamalpais, Mono Lake, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, Grand Canyon, White Sands, Mesa Verde, Canyon de Chelly, the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands of South Dakota, Denali, Jasper, and Banff. In terms of the future, we have been much encouraged by the diversity of applications which continue to emerge. One of particular appeal relates to the documentation of cultural and archaeological sites which cannot be preserved and which inevitably will deteriorate with the passage of time. Many thousands of these sites are present around the world. Prime examples include entire cities such as Rome, Italy. In this instance, limestone structures which have stood for thousands of years have become the victims of acid rain. Stonemason’s chisel marks, until recently clear to see, have all but vanished. Only through a massive program of ultra-high-resolution documentary photography can such details be preserved for enjoyment and study by future generations.

Binoculars with Built-In Rangefinders: A Good Idea?

Does it make sense to get binoculars with a built-in laser rangefinder? Many hunters have found out firsthand just how useful a good set of quality binoculars can be in the field. Many others have found, and more are finding by the day, the usefulness that a laser rangefinder gives them as well. So one obvious question, why not combine these two vital pieces of hunting optics in package. This combines the range finder into one of the key pieces of equipment that you were likely going to have anyway. It seems to make eminent sense, but there are relatively few models from which to choose. A good idea but not without limitationsA decent number of hunters carry binos when they’re out in the field. In fact, more hunters probably should. Yes, you give up some field of view when you look through any magnified device, but sometimes there’s no better way to see far-off movement or that bedded-down deer that you would never see with the naked eye. If you’re in dense cover or part of a deer drive or something, binoculars may not do you much good, but in so many other scenarios, they’re a great addition to your gear. Unfortunately, one of the main limitations is the small number of models to choose from, especially if you want to keep the price under four figures. Also, if you weren’t going to carry a set of binoculars, they’re considerably heavier and bulkier than a standard handheld range finder. And finally, there’s that whole golf thing again. You look kind of weird on the back nine with a pair of binoculars around your neck. Pesky little issue. As with many things, a question of convenience vs. versatility and costIt seems that there would be more models to choose from in this category. The Leica Geovid and the Carl Zeiss Optical are extremely high quality and are rated very well, but they are quite expensive. And the Newcon’s price is simply breathtaking. The Bushnell Fusion is more within reach of what it would cost to get a separate unit for both items, but that’s about it. As more hunters and other users discover the usefulness of this combination, more products may hit the market, but the selection is limited at this time. While more versatile than a rifle scope rangefinder, a bino combo still has limits on where and when you would use it. They’re not the smallest items in your gear bag and you wouldn’t want to treat them too roughly. The key to any combination unit is that the combo must perform as well or better than the separate units would on their own. The limited selection of rangefinding binoculars will do that – but you may have to pay a bit for it. And one more thing – make sure you’re allowedBe sure to check your State, County and City laws for restrictions before ordering this product. Also, these generally cannot be exported or ordered outside the United States without federal approval.

NASCAR: Dying after 2001

After the death of Dale Earnhardt in the 2001 Daytona 500, NASCAR started to work on a new car to make safety the number one priority. They also worked on the walls, putting up a foam “safer barrier” to make the impact of the cars hitting the wall diminish greatly. Thus the G-forces that hit the drivers would be significantly reduced and as a result not cause injury or death, which was common in NASCAR for its entire existence.

Bushnell Fusion 1600 Rangefinder Binoculars Review

]]>

Bushnell is one of the leading makers of sporting optics, including binoculars and range finders for a wide variety of users. It’s no surprise then that they would offer a combination of both, in a relatively affordable package about in line with the cost of buying mid-range units of both separately. It’s an attractive idea, combining two vital pieces of equipment into one product. It’s a similar idea to having a range finder rifle scope. They’re both hunting optics devices, why not? And for the most part, it does.
Full-featured for pretty much any situation

The Fusion 1600 is designed with virtually every hunter in mind, with features that will appeal to bow hunters, rifle hunters, long-range varmint hunters, and everyone in-between. It has enough range for anyone not using a . 50 cal, separate bow and rifle modes to ‘do the math’ on angled shots or bullet drop, and the ability to both scan and prioritize. Plenty of hunters carry binoculars, and frankly, many of those who aren’t probably should. Details like a bedded-down deer can pop out in your specs that you would never see with the naked eye. And while nearly all stand-alone rangefinders include magnification, two eyes are better than one. No doubt, there are some tradeoffs, but if you’ve decided that the convenience is worth it to you, then the Bushnell is a very good choice to combine a mid-range binoculars with a very versatile range finder, and pretty much the only choice under four figures.
Features of the Fusion 1600:

Rated range from 10 to 1600 yards
Bow mode: provides line-of-sight, angle and true horizontal distance from 10-99 yds
Rifle mode: provides line-of-sight, angle, and bullet-drop info for most of today’s popular calibers
VSI (Variable Sight-In) allows sight-in distance options of 100, 150, 200 or 300 yards sight-in distance in rifle mode
Continuous scan and prioritization modes to go with the first return or distant returns
10x magnification with a bright 42 mm objective lens
Multicoated optics and RainGuard (R) lens coating for maximum performance
Uses 1 CR2 lithium battery for long life
Accurate within 1 yard
The optics may not be what you would find in a top of the line set of binos, but they don’t carry a top of the line price, at least when you throw in the range finder. Speaking of that, the features included can compete with nearly any laser rangefinder on the market.
Admittedly, you give up a bit of versatility when you go with any combination unit. But if the convenience of having one less thing to carry in the field appeals to you, then this may be a fine choice. It may not get the rave reviews that the Leica Geovid rangefinder binoculars get, but it’s nearly a third of the price.
Conclusion:
While there are naturally some compromises in selecting any combination, there are advantages as well. The Bushnell Fusion 1600 Rangefinder Binoculars deliver a solid, full-featured combo that will appeal to hunters and outdoors enthusiasts of all types. The optics may not wow you, but they almost assuredly wont’ disappoint.
The Fusion 1600 combines a very good mid-range binocular with a high-end range finder. If a combo fits your needs, it’s hard to beat this without paying nearly three times the price.
