Birds in Flight

Don’t we all wish we could fly? Soar through the sky without care in the world. Free as a bird. 1. DovesIt’s funny that doves and pigeons come from the same species of bird when one is thought of as dirty and unattractive and the other a beautiful symbol and romance and peace. Doves are stout-bodied birds with short necks. They typically lay 1-2 eggs and both parents, in a very egalitarian fashion, care for their young. 2. FlamingosFlamingos are friendly wading birds that often stand on one leg while they keep the other tucked beneath their body. The reason for this is not fully understood. Some researchers believe it is a way of conserving energy, others believe that the lifted leg is asleep. You may not have known that flamingos are born with grey feathers and that their pink colouring is the result of drinking bacteria infested water. The better their diet the brighter their colours, and the more desirable they are as a mate.
3. GeeseGeese belong to the family Anetidae that also includes swans and ducks. There are two main categories of geese, black and grey. Ducks are typically surface feeders, while swans have the longest necks. Have you ever seen two swans face each other with their necks in the shape of a heart? It’s quite something. 4. HeronsHerons are non-swimming water birds that feed on the margins of lakes, rivers, swamps, ponds, and the sea. They are typically found in wetlands, although there are some species that live in alpine or tropical regions. 5. OwlsOwls are solitary, nocturnal birds. Their forward facing eyes offer binocular vision and a greater sense of depth perception, which is helpful for late night hunting. They tend to hunt small mammals, insects and other birds. Some hunt fish as well. 6. PenguinsPenguins are a group of aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, especially Antarctica. For some reason, penguins have played a large role in popular culture. They have been the subject of many books and films including, Happy Feet, Surf’s Up, March of the Penguins, Mr. Popper’s Penguin, and And Tango Makes Three. I guess everyone just loves the little guys!Birds are an exotic class of animal that we so rarely are able to get close to. Perhaps that’s what makes them so interesting. Or perhaps it’s because most of them have the ability to fly and we are stuck with two feet on earth, unless of course we decide to put our two feet in a basket and go for a balloon ride.

Classic vs. Cool Fashion and Accessories
A benefit of cool is that few people will have it. This is especially true if you bought the item on the beach or in a one-of-a-kind shop. While a benefit of classic is that it will always be in style. Moreover, people tend to spend more money on classic items, and therefore they tend to last longer. Here’s a short list of classic and cool items every man and woman should own.

Christmas Parties, Christmas Lunches, Office Parties, Christmas Brunches
This time of year usually means one thing- eating! No I’m only kidding, it means a few things, including family, friends, vacation, gifts, tradition, celebration, and eating. Our calendars tend to flood with more social obligations than usually around the end of November, early December, so it’s important that we pick and choose the events we really want to attend.
