Tyrannosaurus Rex Dinosaur Facts

Tyrannosaurus rex was a species of carnivorous (meat eating) dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period, between about 67 million years and 65 million years ago. It was one of the last dinosaurs, and was one of dinosaurs that died out during the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period, known as the K-T Extinction Event (the mass extinction which wiped out all the remaining dinosaurs as well as many other species too). Tyrannosaurus rex was, of course, truly massive (although not the largest of dinosaurs, and not even the largest of the carnivorous dinosaurs). A typical adult Tyrannosaurus rex is believed to have been about 11. 9 meters (39 feet) long, about 6. 1 meters (20 feet) tall, and probably weighed around 7 tons. Some animals were however even larger – for example, an animal nicknamed “Sue” which is in the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois, is about 12. 8 meters (42 feet) long. Traditionally, Tyrannosaurus rex has been depicted as a fierce and active predator, however in recent years some scientists have challenged this view. Those scientists who support the traditional view of Tyrannosaurus rex point to the relatively large areas of the animal’s brain devoted to sight and vision (which would have been useful for hunting), and the arrangement of the animal’s eyes (which are forward-facing and suggestive of binocular vision, also useful for hunting). On the other hand, those scientists who have challenged the traditional view, argue that Tyrannosaurus was probably relatively slow moving, and that it probably mostly lived as a scavenger feeding on carcasses killed by other animals.

They can inflict serious damage to any agricultural crop, sucking down the juices of plants with their tube lick mouth. As if their threat to agriculture was enough, stink bugs also emit a nasty stink spray that people find disgusting.
