Take a look at the Marlin Model 60 and Ruger 10/22

    Under $250

Any . 22 rifle really. I would say for hunting a bolt action but you could go with a semi if you wanted to. As to what kind take you pick. Most of them are in the $150-$200 range while some models like the 10/22 go for more or have extras which raise the price.

As for a scope a standard rimfire 3-9×40 would work. You can get them off ebay for around $50. I have a bushnell on mine.

The best all-around hunting gun is a 12 gauge shotgun. With the right load and choke, you can hunt rabbit- most rabbit hunters use shotguns to hit the bunnies on the run- birds, and deer at ranges up to 50 yards or so.

If you want a . 22, it’s hard to beat the Ruger 10/22 or the Marlin 60. The choice depends on your budget.

When you say you want a “cheap scope”, how cheap are you talking? The cheapest scopes are worthless decorations that won’t hold zero and can’t stand up to being carried in the field. The cheapest scopes I can recommend is something like a Baraska 4x for around $55. If you want a decent zoom scope- like a 4-12x, be prepared to spend around $120 to get something of quality.

I would look for a . 22LR. The Ruger 10/22 and the Marlin 60 are about the two most popular ones. And . 22 rimfire scopes are not that expensive.

If you decide to move onto larger game, go after a Savage. I’ve owned a Remington 700 my whole life, which shoots great. But right out of the box, the Savage I got shoot better than my Remington.

Get a Marlin 925M in . 22WMR (mag). I’ve seen these at Walmart and that’s where I got mine. It was $197. Also, Walmart carries CenterPoint scopes which to me are great. Get the 3-9×32 with the illuminated reticle and you’re set for 100 yards. I have the same scope and it was $55. Look for CCI ammo because I got a box of Winchester’s and 5 out of 50 didn’t go off.

You must be a really good shot to hit a rabbit with a rifle, like Jed Clampet. If you said squirrel hunting ok. I don’t believe in hitting a rabbit that is sitting still. If you are hunting rabbit, to eat, a 4 10 will give them a chance up to a 16 or 20 ga. A 22 lr will kill a rabbit. If you get one of the ones listed tell me how well your hunting trips go.
