What’s a good scope for a Remington 700 SPS.?

Sο, I аm buying a Remington 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD, іn 308. I рlаn tο mainly hunt wіth іt, bυt I wουld lіkе tο bυу a quality scope thаt wіll allow mе tο mаkе adjustments fοr long rang shots. I wουld lіkе tο spend nο more thаn $1000 οn a scope. One οf mу concerns іѕ having a scope thаt’s tοο powerful, whісh mіght mаkе іt hard tο shot аt close ranges, bυt аt thе same time I want tο shot accurately аt long ranges. Thеrе аrе a lot οf choices out thеrе. Anyone hаνе a scope thеу’d recommend I υѕе?

I would re-think purchasing that rifle for hunting purposes. I own one and I surely would NOT want to lug it around all day. There are many better choices if hunting is your purpose.

What do you consider “long ranges”? Remember. . . a quick, humane kill is your top priority. The AVERAGE shooter probably has no business taking shots longer than 200 yards. I suspect that if you had the necessary skills for long range hunting you wouldn’t need to ask this question.

First you will need a 20 MOA scope base. Commonly collectively called a long range base. This base will give you the scope adjustment capability for long range shooting.

As to specific scope. You CAN NOT go wrong with Leupold. They are the Gold Standard for USA made scopes. I know you can get a very good one for $1,000 or less.

My son has a SPS Varmint. It has a 6″ longer barrel. It is extremely muzzle heavy. He took it deer hunting a couple of times when he only had to pack it 100 yds from the truck. It shoots nice but is kind of heavy for carrying very far. He had one of my old Tasco 4x scopes on it for those deer hunting trips since he had to send his Millett back for warranty replacement. He now has a SWFA 10x on it with target turrets. It works well for what he uses it for, but I would think it would be too high powered for deer hunting if there was a possibility of a short distance shot.
