    Yes, Yes and No.
    Yes Rifle
    Yes Scope
    No . 270.

Go with a larger 30 caliber round. the list below are my favs. . 270 is a necked down 30-06. This means a smaller faster bullet. I like the 30 caliber selection for size and energy. Stay away from the idiot calibers for white tail(300 Win Mag, WSM, 7mm Rem Mag, hell anything with mag after it. )

    7mm-08
    300 Savage
    . 308
    30-06

Ballistically they are all very close, but overall the 30-06 is the superior of the bunch. The other three have less recoil. The 7mm-08 is the smoothest shooting SOB around. It is a whitetail slayer. 140 Grain Boat Tail Soft Point is a very good choice. 150 Grain for the others is plenty good enough. I am not too kindly on the . 270. It seems that i have had to help friends find more deer shot with a . 270 than with any of the above mentioned rounds put together.

Other guys- don’t get into the well placed shot thing. I completely i understand that a well placed shot from any caliber will do the job. Just look at at the caliber specific argument. Keep your panties out of a bunch. Personally i hunt with a M1 Carbine. . . Get that on ya

Sounds like a good choice. You should look at a Mossberg ATR-100 in . 270. Academy has them for $299 with scope. The scope is cheap but usable. My nephew got one last year. The scope was supposed to be bore sighted, but 6 of the scope mounting screws were loose and the rest needed tightening. It has a great trigger. My nephew took a nice deer with his rifle last year.
