The general answer is that you want to mount your scope as low and close to the barrel as possible. However, depending on the diameter of the objective bell, that will determine the size of rings – that along with the base that also provides some elevation.

Most times medium rings will do the trick. But it is sometimes a matter of trial and error. That’s why I keep several pairs of rings on hand for my collection.

I would opt for the lowest ones that work. medium should be OK, you may need to remove the rear sight. the size of the bell on the scope determines (in part) what height rings you need.

As you have read above – you want the lowest rings as possible, but, the scope must not touch the barrel. You should be able to slip a folded over $1 bill between them.

33mm is a quite small front bell. This will be perfect for shooting standard targets and in the sand pit – but – will suck quite bad when hunting because the front lens is what captures the light. And you need a nice big front lens to get the most light at early dawn and late dusk when critters are most active. What happens is your crosshairs become unrecognizable in the background. Of course, nobody puts a $800 Leupold on a 10/22 but there are better scopes than this.

I recommend you ditch this and look at the BSA ‘Sweet 22′. This is an affordable scope specifically designed for the 22 rifles. It has a BDC (bullet drop compensator) top turret that once calibrated at the range lets you instantly change the zero from 25 feet to 475 feet. It makes shooting a 10/22 about 20x more fun because you can easily put the rifle dead on target. I have this scope on my suppressed 10/22 I use for bunnies and grouse. . . . . . . . I have several spare Leupolds in my safe, but, I really love this inexpensive scope because it makes that rifle more fun to use.

You will not be disapointed in this scope. You can look at it on the BSA web site, or www. midwayusa. com or Cabellas. com. It is very, very popular with 10/22 owners.

A set of low rings might work but it will be close. Medium will work just fine. Tall works but its to tall IMHO

Also ive had a BSA sweet . 22 and let me say this. . . there was nothing sweet about it.

Low will be awful close, but they may work. Medium will work for sure.

My advice is to take the rifle and scope to an outdoors store or gun shop (not Wal-Mart) and have them open a package so you can see if the rings will be the right height for your rifle & scope combo. Any outdoors store worth their salt will be happy to let you check the proper ring height in store.

If they fit, use low rings. The scope will be closer to the bore, and you will get a better cheekweld on the stock when looking through the scope.
