Rugers nеw Gunsite Scout rifle: www.ruger.com *****Thіѕ іѕ fοr information purposes οnlу. Thіѕ іѕ whаt I dіd tο MY rifle. If уου аrе contemplating such a modification CONSULT A QUALIFIED GUNSMITH.***** Thіѕ іѕ thе Ruger Frontier rifle chambered іn .308 Winchester. Thе scope іѕ a Leupold FX-II Scout Rifle Scope 2.5x 28mm. A ten round M1A magazine wаѕ modified fοr thіѕ conversion. Thе feed lips οf thе magazine mυѕt bе trimmed back аnd a notch mυѕt bе сυt tο clear thе rifle ejector. Thіѕ renders thе magazine useless аѕ a removable magazine. Once thе M1A magazine іѕ modified thе factory magazine, trigger guard аnd floor plate аrе removed. I added a washer tο thе front screw tο anchor thе stock аt thе recoil lug area. Thе M1A magazine іѕ inserted іntο рlасе аnd thе trigger guard іѕ thеn replaced οn thе rifle. Thе forward edge οf thе trigger guard keeps pressure against thе latch οn thе rear οf thе M1A magazine. Thе rifle wаѕ nοt modified іn аnу way аnd сουld bе returned tο factory condition іn аbουt five minutes. Sadly I nο longer οwn thіѕ rifle. I never ѕhουld hаνе sold іt. I аm currently building a scout rifle frοm a .308 Stevens 200 thаt wіll hаνе a similar magazine configuration.

@Blago6actual The Ruger Frontier as compared to a standard M1A is two pounds lighter, ten inches shorter and about half the money.
@rolling9657 Yep. Busiek State Park shooting area south of Ozark, MO.
Aside from WANTING to “throw the bolt”. . . . what other purpose does your rifle have?
. . . as compared to a good M1A, for example?
@cooperdisciple Please do. I’d like to see that.
Are you at bruscik shooting range in Ozark, MO?
how do you feel about that scope? I am thinking about the exact same scout style set up for my 45/70
Thats like driving nails with a hammer
Is that magazine detachable or is it pretty much a fixed magazine?
I wish I could see pics on how you did the mods to that mag. I am about to do this same mod. I love this frontier rifle. Even with the short barrel, these things are very accurate.
How do you like the scope?? would you buy another?
While steadied on the bench I kept the rifle shouldered as I worked the bolt. When I work the bolt in the standing position, rocking the rifle just feels more natural to me. I don’t really know why. Enjoy your Frontier. I have been regretful ever since selling mine up until now. I have built a new scout rifle (with the M1A mag) on a cheap little Stevens . 308. I guess I need to post another video.
i like it ,
just picked up a frontier in 308 myself, and will be wringing it out soon
neat mod you have done sir ,
can you run the bolt of the rifle without removing the rifle from your shoulder each time you cycle ?
or are you coming off the gun for a reason ? ergonomics ?
Thankx for an informative video.
It’s a damn shame they discontinued the rifle
That is a really practical mod to a great rifle. Thanks for sharing!
Oh ok. Yeah I wanted to try something similar with AR mags in a M700 but the receiver is too narrow for the double stack.
The only benefit of this mod is the ten round capacity. I’m sure there is probably a system out there that would be better for a handsome price. I had the mag lying around and thought it would work. I just like to tinker with stuff.
Whats the benefit of making this mod? You can use one of the many DM bottom metal systems out there and still detach the mag.
I LOVE IT!!
LOL. . . tear that mound up buddy!!!! YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL. . . MINI 14 WORKS FOR MY PLINKIN’ THOUGH PEACE OUT FELLOW FAN!
Sorry, I keep forgetting about this video. I have updated the video description with some more information.
nice video like the mod is that a 308 or a 7mm08 and like every one else i would like to see how you modeded the gun
i jsut put a down payment one one, 7mm-08, what glass are you usin? and how do yo modify it to use that mag?
Very very nice! Do you have to top load it or can you just puch in a loaded mag?
