@KevCal510 send me a pm. Youtube isn’t allowing me to send you pms.
I hope they make an aftermarket baseplate thats metal so the magazine release is metal
my local wal-mart has these for $267 before tax, so i think i’m gonna pick myself up one in . 223. i looked at ‘em at a couple gun shops & the only thing i don’t really like is depending on how the scope gets mounted, you’re almost pinching your fingers between the scope & bolt when you run the action. but i’m sure that’s nothin that a set of taller rings can’t fix
@hangemhigh2000 bullshit
i just bought an savage axis 30-06 i hadn’t got to shoot it yet but i think its gonna be a great rifle
@gboyd242 To each their own. I grew up around the 30-06, so it has sentimental value to me. Plus, I already have a . 308 rifle. For a bolt, I prefer the 30-06.
nice rifle!! excellent vid!!!
james
@millerusaf I guess the 30-06 has it’s place but for 90+% of people the 308 is the better choice. The difference in performance is a matter of a few yards (less than 25) when loaded to maximum pressures. The 308 also has less recoil, a shorter and stiffer receiver, lighter ammo. I can get steel cased 308 for $6 and brass for $9. Cheapest I’ve seen lately for 30-06 is $12.
The 308 is used in many 1000 yard competitions and if you wanted to shoot farther than that there are better options than 06
Who gets a sore shoulder, Not me.
This gun is on my ‘to buy’ list. Thanks for the review.
ive been looking at these, really want one.
My old savage 340E in . 222 will do . 89″ at 100 yards with my plinking reloads. This is averaged over 80 rounds over 2 sessions. One flyer was discarded because I was startled by someone in my peripheral vision. . . Getting an 11fcns in 308 for 200 and 300 yds as the . 222 opens up to ~6″ and catches wind out there. Might have an Edge in 243 before that. Got a guy selling one for $75. Now if he’d just return my call. . .
Nice
@gboyd242 The 30-06 does have more punch than the . 308 caliber. Especially if I decide to use something like a heavy 220 grain.
I purchased a bunch of Federal 150 grain softpoint for 13. 99 per box of 20. The 30-06 round is very affordable to shoot and sits right around the same cost of . 308 these days in stores.
@gboyd242 I wouldn’t say the 30-06 round is antiquated or impractical. The 30-06 round is still one of the top selling hunting rounds every year,Hornady’s 2010 catalog ballistics chart shows 30-06 beating . 308 in fps and ft/lb out to 500 yards. The . 308 is a great round that is sold in many tactical firearms but that fact does not make the 30-06 a antique. The move from 30-06 to . 308(7. 62×51NATO) by the US military was politically based not performance based.
@mrtlsimon That’s like saying a flintlock is tactical because they used it in the revolutionary war. When a 308 basically performs the same in a lighter gun, with lighter, cheaper ammo, the 30-06 becomes antiquated from a practical standpoint. It’s still a great round but there are better choices for a battle rifle.
@hoodrat61 This particular rifle Savage just started making last year but they have been making their 10-series for a very long time.
I would have one of these in 308 if the grip were bigger. Even a lot of standard grips I find too small and this one is particularly tiny. Good to see you like it and I’m interested to see how the shooting goes. I bet you’ll be able to do 1 MOA.
wow for under four bills. nice.
Great vid! GOD BLESS!
Very cool rifle Miller! You never fail to impress with your purchases.
@timmyjunior1 Yep. Savage makes some really great rifles.
@futuresolider96 I’ll start at 100 yards for the initial shoot. After that, I’ll go 200 yards, 300 yards, 500 meters, then finally (when the range opens it up again) the 1000 yard lane. It’ll all depend on the performance of the scope, though.
I have a savage I paid 100$ for and I can split cards at 50-75 yards. Its also free floated, to my knowlegde all savage rifles are.
first off happy easter to you and secind how far would you vbe confirable taking this rifle out to with that satndard scope
