    In sunny conditions and using a front-focal plane reticle: the reticle can project a shadow of itself onto the rear lense, causing a “phantom” crosshair to appear slightly out of place.

    Sounds like your ocular lens adjustment is way out. While looking at a blank wall through the scope, turn the bell closest to your eye in one direction and see if it starts clearing up. If not turn it in the other direction.

    If you have used this scope before and its just now showing double cross hairs-then there is a problem.
    However some scopes that have a prf (prismatic range finder) on them will have double cross hairs.
    I have such a scope on one of my bolt action rifles. It also has a bullet drop compensator.
