I keep messing up scopes on my muzzle loader also. last time i got a 3 x 9 nikon made for turkey hunting. I have been using it for 3 years. works great. I got on sale at cabelas for $120.
best affordable scope with the guarantee is a Leopold it will never fail and if you cant afford a new one buy a used and it will still be better than 20 of brand new cheap Simmons
I’m a bit surprised that you had trouble with a Simmons on it. I have been using one for awhile now and mine’s ok, I hope that doesn’t change.
Some Bushnell scopes are ok for the price, but the ring on them to adjust the magnification turns very hard. Otherwise the guy who told you to use leopold is correct. They are nice, but can be expensive.
A Nikon buckmaster would make a fine scope as well, I have one on a Ruger M77 Mk2 in . 338 Win Mag. That thing is violent on scopes, but the Nikon has held up.
I have great advice. Don’t. The whole point of hunting with a smokepole is to connect you with history. Rather than using an in-line with scope, pellets of powder substitute, shotgun primer, and all those things meant to skirt the point, use a traditional rifle in the traditional way. It’s lots more fun, satisfying, and all you need. Your range with a muzzleloader isn’t great enough to require a scope, anyway.
