*PLEASE READ THE WHOLE QUESTION, аnd I’m nοt asking fοr opinions аbουt thе Mosin-Nagant οr whаt guns уου thіnk аrе better*
I hаνе one “decomissioned” 1943 Mosin-Nagant аnd dесіdеd tο bυу a nеw one. I’m restocking thе nеw one wіth аn ATI black stock, scope mount аnd a “far eye relief” Tasco 3-9×32 scope, along wіth ѕοmе οthеr small stuff (bipod, sling аnd ѕοmе stripper clips). I аlѕο bουght a “Vivitar Terra View” 18-36×50 Spotting Scope fοr thе range, whісh I thіnk wіll bе sufficient ѕіnсе I don’t рlаn οn shooting past 200 yards. At lеаѕt nοt уеt.
NOW THE QUESTION: Arе thеrе аnу οthеr things I’m overlooking thаt I сουld bе doing tο improve thе performance οf mу thе nеw Nagant tο increase іt’s performance? I’ve heard οf frictionless triggers, bυt I’ve аlѕο heard thаt unless уου′re having trigger issues, thеу′re a waste οf $35.
Anу advice???

On the Russky M/N,
Back in 1954,I had one of these that was new, unfired made by
Westinghouse. I got a Fajen blank and remodeled it in the wood work shop of Huntington High School and it looked good and shot as well as the stock sights would allow. Can anyone today imagine some 17 year old wanting to restock an old “Army Rifle” in a school work shop now days? The volume of gas that would be passed would refloat the Titanic.
What you have done with the black stock and the sights is good and the new trigger may or may not be a benefit. Have you fired it yet? This is NOT a feeble cartridge and is equal in many ways to the 30-06 in certain loadings. Inspect the first fired case closely and make sure the primer hasn’t tried to back out or that the case itself isn’t deformed in any way.
As a matter of history, the first major order for the Model 1895 Winchester lever actions were for the Czar and they were all made for the 7. 62×54R and I THINK there were about 750,000 ordered but are now seldom seen.

Actually the new trigger will help your accuracy a little, the old military rifles have a harder trigger pull, the new replacement is usually a cheaper way to get a trigger job done to it. And I would suggest saving up for a better scope, that tasco isn’t going to do too well for you in the long run, it will probably be fine for the first year, but after that it might become a wasted money item.
