When you close your non-shooting eye, you are partially closing your shooting eye as well. Either try and keep it open more or leave the other eye open.
Sounds to me like you have too much light coming back to your eye. What’s happening is your shooting eye is closing like the F/stop of a camera – wile the other is open.
Too much light happens when you use a white target – like butcher paper – and a simple dot. Try going to a light brown or darker piece of big cardboard. You can use a ND-3, ND-6 or ND-9 (ND=Neutral Density) filter to cut the light in half. You can buy these filters online at B&H photo out of New York if you know the size of your scope’s front threads in mm. Or – you can also buy a sheet of plastic ND filter material and put it on with a rubber band. Works just as well.
Sometimes this happens because sunlight is coming into the front lens at an angle. This light bounces around the inside of the scope and makes the whole picture too bring – and this sure can fade your crosshairs. You solve this installing a sunshade. Some scopes you can buy nice matte black metal ones that screw onto the front of your scope. If not – a 6″ to 8″piece of matte construction paper rolled and taped to the front works just fine too.
Hope this helps.
your right eye may be dominant,or left i alway shoot one eyed ,,i know it is taught to use both but years of shootin ,,,,jusst cant break the right eys bi- focals really set be back,,,,i sometimes see 2 cross hairs you will get it soon just keep trying ok ,,good luck there
i have this problem sometimes too. Your scope probably has an adjustable focusing piece (probably near the rear lens) that you can use to adjust the focus. Dial it in so you can see both the cross-hairs and the sight picture.
