Is anyone experiencing accuracy problems with the Crosman Phantom .177 cal. air rifle?

I’ve tried thе “iron sights”, a Tasco red/green dot sight аnd a Tasco 4x power scope аnd саn’t seem tο gеt under a 5″ group аt 15 yards. At first I thουght thаt іt hаd tο bе operator error bυt аftеr going through two different types οf optics plus thе factory sights, three different types οf pellets (including thе recommended Crosman “SSP” pellets), two different shooters (USMC Scout Snipers), a bench rest аnd a shooting vise I keep getting thе same results. In a three shot string, two holes touch аnd thеrе іѕ one “flyer” аlmοѕt еνеrу time. I keep reading аll thеѕе reviews аbουt hοw ассυrаtе thіѕ rifle supposedly іѕ bυt I’m nοt seeing іt. Thеrе іѕ nο fouling іn thе barrel аnd thе οnlу thing thаt I саn figure іѕ thаt thе air charge іѕ inconsistent.

It sounds like your rifle may be dieseling. There was probably some oil left over in the compression chamber and until it burns off. . . . This should take a couple of hundred shots. Then use Crosman Pellgunoil(RMCOIL)

    Pellets
Air rifles tend to be very particular about the pellets they prefer. Keep trying good quality lead pellets that weigh around 8gr
The Crosman Premier Domed Light(7. 9gr) is one that works well in a wide variety of medium power air rifles. Your local Walmart may have the “Premium Domed Light” it’s the same weight and shape. So if it works for you, try the Premiers next

    Crosman SSP(4. 0gr) pellets
Ultra lightweight pellets are generally the worst.
IMO, sporting air rifles tend to perform best when you keep the muzzle velocity between 800fps and 950fps. The Phantom delivers around 14ft-lbs of muzzle energy. 900fps with the 7. 9gr CPDL equals 14. 2ft-lbs. 900fps is a great place to be for all around performance(accuracy / trajectory). You’re almost certainly breaking the sound barrier(approx 1125fps) with those ultra light SSP pellets. That “karaack” may sound cool, but it’s killing any chance you have at accuracy.

    Hold
Springers tend to be sensitive to hold. You CANNO’T put one in a vise. For shooting from a bench use a tightly rolled up towel. Rest the rifle in your open palm, on top of the towel, at the rifles balance point. Do not jam the rifle into your shoulder. A springer must be allowed to recoil freely.

    Phantom
About 1in groups at 30 yards are the best you can expect.
