The problem is the military is not supposed to give a hint that it favours a religion, specifically in areas of the world where religion is a hot button. Basically, our military is never supposed to give the impression it is practicing a crusade.
1) It’s government property, and no part of government property should be inscribed with anything religious.
2) Why do you assume the person using the scope is Christian?
3) That would make this a religious war, and I dont want to see Christians ‘having’ to side with the west, and vice versa.

Bible scripture is hated by Islamic Extremists. Because, they deny Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Lamb of God who takes away our sins, and the Resurrection & the Life.
So scripture is comforting for the Soldier. But the Islamic Radicals don’t want US to be comforted by Gods Word.
Really, the USA got rid of Sodom & his, who were persecuting his own people. Then we had to fight Alquida in Iraq, until we overcame them by the insurgence. And now we are fighting Alquida in Afghanistan, and now going where ever they plant their terrorist relief cells.
Muslims in high places in Islamic Countries, put people in jail for having a Holy Bible in public. Accusing them of proselytizing. So? These countries don’t give equal rights to the Christian Arabs. Nor do they want USA to give Bibles to Christian Arabs. Even if the Christian Arabs want them.
The whole thing against the Holy Bible is really ANTICHRIST.
The assumed danger is that it will make our arab allies feel like they are being fired at by “christian” weapons, but i honestly think that this is just a jump at Christianity. After all, the report went on to say that it was wrong for soldiers to bring bibles into the country that they meant to give out to the locals. Yes, they would have had to leave the compound against orders to hand them out, but if the soldiers had been handing out korans or torahs, i doubt the news stations would have attacked them for it. I think it’s wrong that people are calling these references on the sights of the guns so “intolerable” and “wrong” when if it were from any other religion, they would be fine with it. I don’t know your religious background, but I am a christian. I feel especially irked by the government’s reaction to the soldier’s attempted distribution of bibles because i have many missionary friends who’ve worked with bible translations for people who would otherwise never have the chance to hear the Word. So truly, there should not be a controversy over the fact that bible references were printed on the sights of guns used in the middle east.
