First off, your Remington Nagant is one of the older rarer dragoon Nagants out there, you may consider buying an $80 one to mess around with, and keep your Remy original.

To answer your question, there are scout type mounts that do replace the rear sight on your Nagant. You will notice that a few are around $70, and most are about $20. The cheap $20 mounts are inferior, and quickly shoot loose, moving your point of impact all over the place. I’d like to suggest using an S&K mount. I used one of these on my 1933 Tula Nagant. It is very high quality, and rock solid. It costs around $70, but is well worth it. It was very easy to install, and the Burris scout scope I attached to it was very close to zero when tested with a bore sighter. I think the folks at S&K sell rather inexpensive scout scopes too. Some folks will tell you that a pistol scope will work, but be aware that I have found that it is too close to your eye to work. The eye relief on those is for your out-stretched hands holding a revolver. Check it out and see for yourself.

Don’t butcher that gun! Westinghouse and Remington had contracts with Czarist Russia in the years leading up to the Russian revolution.
Your gun is an important piece of history and will be greatly devalued by altering it.

    I have to agree
A Remington is a valuable rifle to be sporterizing
    However
You can buy a scout mount that will not permanently alter the gun and you can buy a bent bolt body that is easily interchanged with the original

Both would cost around $50 a piece

    Just Google
    Mosin Bent Bolt
    and
    Mosin Scout Mount
Personally I would do those things to an M38 or M39

You could, but don’t do it! Remington M91’s are few and far between. You could sell this rifle and buy a modern remington, winchester, etc that would give better performance than a 91 year old mosin. I don’t know if you can do it by replacing the rear sight on an M91 because the sight base is different than a 91/30.

here is a site that sells a scope mount that replaces your rear site and is totally reversible. It also does not require a bent bolt. http://tickbitesupply. com/mos. html

Do not alter the rifle by drilling scope mounts and bending the bolt handle.

Just get a scope mount that replaces the rear site and can be removed to return the rifle to original condition.

There are many different mounts, go and join surplusrifle. com and get active on the forum there. Somebody will tell you what is the best scope mount that replaces the rear site

You really shouldn’t modify it. Its a great piece of history, and keeping it original retains the value rather than destroys it.
