I јυѕt рυrсhаѕеd a Savage Classic T Model 93, a .22 magnum bolt action rifle wіth scope, аnd a detachable 5 round magazine. I hаνе οnlу one magazine rіght now. I don’t even know іf I wουld bring thіѕ one. http://www.savagearms.com/93classic_T.htm
Am I going tο hаνе trουblе іn customs wіth thеѕе rifles? Thеу аrе reasonably ordinary target, small game аnd varmint rifles. I аm аn avid target shooter, nοt a hunter. Wουld I bе better borrowing rifles thеrе? Cаn I borrow a rifle frοm a Canadian? Thanks.

You can import the firearms for legitimate sporting purposes at Canada Customs. There is paperwork and Last time I took a shotgun to Canada for Duck hunting it was $50 Canadian Dollars. There are certain requirements that the firearms must meet. Here this will answer some questions: http://www. panda. com/canadaguns/
IMPORTANT: stop at U. S. Customs first. Notify them of your intent. They have an Origination Form and record the serial numbers, which proves the firearms originated in the US, when you bring them back to the US there is no importation. They will inspect the firearms and verify the serial numbers.
Your 1st post is spot on, just make sure you have your paperwork in order and Canadian Customs will be very happy.
With a semi-automatic, you can not exceed 5 rds magazines without permits only available to Canadians. This includes rimfire.
If it is bolt action or lever action, the 5 rds limit probably doesn’t apply, but you never know.
I almost lost a Mossberg 702 Plinkster that was sort of tricked out with a 10 round magazine.
http://www. mossberg. com/images/Mossberg_Guns/930/New/37090. jpg They allowed me to leave and take it home. Never actually got to Canada this year. Their gun laws are strict. You can have most guns, but you need permits. It is not easy to enter Canada if you even have a minor misdemeanor on your record. Had a DWI, maybe 20 years ago? Your license is no good in Canada to drive.
They have a low tolerance for irresponsible behavior. That’s not a bad thing, is it?
