help explain airsoft scope?

I wаѕ going tο gеt аn airsoft sniper, іt ѕаіd іt hаd a 20 mm weaver rail, whаt dοеѕ thаt mean? i found ѕοmе scopes thаt ѕау 40 mm, nο 20’s though. whаt іѕ a gοοd rail аnd саn someone ехрlаіn?

   You are simply suffering from scope-itis my friend. . . bear with me this can get complicated.

   When you see 20mm weaver rail that means the diameter of the rifles mounting area (where the rings will mount to the rifle). 20mm is the standard in North America, only if you buy a foreign product will you get something different. These weaver rails are commonly refered to as RIS rails. (Rail Interface System) Here is an example of somethings that would fit on a standard 20mm rail.

   Most RIS items will conveniently fit onto your rails.

   When it says mm on a scape that means the diameter of the scope.

   For example you see a scope that says something like this 3-9×40mm

   This means the scope has an adjustable magnification of 3x zoom to 9x zoom. The 40mm part refers to the diameter of the scope.

   Keep in mind that the tube diameter of the scope and the objective diameter are different things.
   The objective is the fatter glass part of the scope. The tube diameter is where the rings will mount so look at the details of the example scope, you will notice it says “25mm” So to mount this scope on your rifle you would need 25mm rings. . . like these
