іѕ thеrе a way tο safely remove іt without destroying іt?
іt іѕ іn thе way οf mу scope frοm mounting. i јυѕt ordered аnd received a set οf #16 weaver mounts аnd i don’t really feel lіkе having tο return thеm аnd thеn ordering again taller ones.
btw, іѕ thе higher thе number, thе higher thе mounts? ѕο іѕ a #24 mount higher thаn #16?

I can’t remember if they are dovetailed into a slot in barrel or not if so brace the barrel take a punch light hammer drift the sites outta the slot sideways, if welded on don’t ruin it bu removing the site get longer mounting plate screws shim the scope mount up higher to clear your scope, but taller rings are easiest way
They are dovetailed into a slot in the barrel. Take a hammer and punch, and *carefully* tap it out.
Note – you should get a piece of scrap metal and use it as a dovetail filler to replace the rear sight once you remove it. This helps keep the sides of the dovetail from getting damaged without the sight being in place. It may also help prevent your hands from getting cut up on the dovetail.
Weaver #16 and #24 bases *should* be the same height. One # is a single piece the other is a two piece mount. I would call Weaver to confirm height question.
EDITED TO ADD: If you need the scope placed higher up over the rifle then you will be best served by getting “Tall” rings. These rings can be purchased at most well stocked sporting goods stores or gun shops.

You should take it to a gunsmith if you can not figure out how to do it yourself.
