Question about attaching scope rings?

http://www.weaveroptics.com/rings_bases/rings/detachable_alum/standard_detachable.aspx

See thе two lіttlе flathead screws οn thе top rings. Hοw tight аrе thеѕе supposed tο bе tightened? I’ve gοt thеm pretty tight bυt thеrе’s a small gap, whісh looks lame. It’s a 1″ tube scope wіth thеѕе Weaver 1″ rings ѕο shouldn’t іt tighten tο flush? Bυt I don’t want tο rυіn thе scope bу tightening tοο tight.

There will be a gap. You would think it would be flush but it won’t be. If there was no gap when fully tightened then it wouldn’t be able to hold the scope as securely, especially if it’s a cheaper scope with loose tolerances. You don’t have to get them all that tight though. Just a good solid hand tight will be plenty. You don’t want to keep forcing it because you may damage your scope. If you plan on leaving the scope on there for awhile you can put a drop of locktite on the screws and then put them in and get them snug and they’ll stay put.

i thought the same thing when i did mine, so i took it to a place to have it checked out. he said “Lame. Will the deer care how their death looks?” its fine do not worry about it

    Funny. I’m mounting a scope tonight. . .

If you think about it, there almost has to be a slight gap in between the rings. It may look like its too big, but its not.
If you want to get anal about it, you can use a torque screw to set it to the exact torque (somewhere around 22 lbs I believe?) but I think few people do that. They just tighten firm. Some people like to add a piece of address label into the rings (or some stuff from Brownings to add cushion. ) I’ve never done that.
Currently using Deadnutz one-piece mounting – good so far. very finely machined
