I would rather have that then a new, plastic stocked, cheap . 22. $100 sounds like a good deal. If you pass on it I want it.
I would if I were you! I have shot one since 1964. Learned how to shoot with the thing. And in my years have shot just about every edible small game in Alaska plus done serious target work and hours of plinking.
Note plinking listed last. The Win. model 69 and the newer iteration, the 69A are adult sized 22 rimfire caliber rifles and are very accurate ! Especially with the ammo it shoots best accuracy with.
To find out which brand or brands, buy several and target shoot 3 or 5 round groups with each brand. Doing so will show you the most accurate brand ammo to use with your rifle! This is your best ammo. The others are your throw away ammo. Plink with them to be rid of inaccurate ammo.
Then you know you have the best set up and can most likely out shoot newer made guns possibly costing more than your Win. 69 !
Your other option to buy a cheap new 22 I think is a mistake.
I would instead buy several more magazines for the thing so I could shoot 50 rounds of ammo at a time or have a friend load while I shoot, continuously ! (I am so selfish, sorry. Or not?) May be difficult to find 10 round magazines, try Numrich Gun Parts Corporation. 5-round aftermarket magazines are available from Brownells, Inc. Go to their . com addresses for contact info.
To increase accuracy a bit more possibly, I would take the gun later to a gunsmith to disassemble, clean/oil/lube with current generation gun oils/lubes, bed the action to the stock and maybe polish the trigger/firing pin. At least put a dab of some friction reducing grease between trigger/firing pin. And install a military style shooters sling for stabilizing shooting standing offhand and other shooting positions.
